It carries a 4.5-star average across more than 22,000 Amazon ratings, Walmart verified buyers praise quick installation and a door that "stays in doorways without marking," and it appears in the high-trust nytimes.com (Wirecutter) coverage of the category. The disagreement is worth surfacing honestly. Community threads are pointed about the hardware: a r/BabyBumpsCanada commenter says the "latch is janky and the bottom can wiggle out of the thing that's supposed to hold it in," and a r/NewDads thread warns more broadly about metal gates with plastic latches that break. The brand's own product page even hosts a complaint that the extenders made it too wide while the screws were barely long enough. As a 28-inch-tall pressure gate, it's a doorway product, not a stair-top one.
For a low-cost, easy-to-fit doorway gate where you can verify the latch works on your frame, it's a reasonable buy, but the latch reliability complaints keep it out of the top tier.

We have the Safety 1st Ready to Install gate and it's great. It's a hardware mounted swing door and there's no bar at the bottom to trip over.
It's a very durable, all-metal gate. The latch mechanism is easy for adults to operate one handed, but challenging for kids to figure out.
