What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
With more than 20,000 Amazon reviews at a 4.7-star average and a sub-$20 price, the Melissa & Doug Burrow Bunny is the budget pick that mainstream reviewers and verified-purchase customers keep coming back to. Walmart and Target reviewers consistently highlight the floppy ears, the self-supporting sitting pose, and a 9-inch size that suits toddlers' hands. One r/plushies thread specifically pitched a Douglas-brand bunny as a 'looks like Jellycat for a fraction of the price' alternative, and the M&D Burrow Bunny lives in roughly the same lane.
What reviewers liked
- Enormous verified-purchase base (20,000+ Amazon reviews) at a sub-$20 price
- Self-supporting sitting pose praised by Target and Walmart reviewers
- Specialist communities cite it as a credible budget alternative to higher-end brands
- Surface-washable per the manufacturer listing
Where it falls short
- r/plushies users report some Melissa & Doug plush feel firm or 'hard as a rock' due to dense stuffing
- A Target reviewer notes the fur is 'quite thin' compared to premium plush
- No high-trust independent testing source in the signals
- Spot-clean only, despite a 'washable surface' claim some reviewers find marketing-heavy

Honest disagreement does show up in the specialist community: another r/plushies thread cautions that some Melissa & Doug plush use metal skeletons and are 'heavily stuffed, hard as a rock,' which is the opposite of the velvety experience some buyers expect. A small minority of retailer reviews echo that the fur is thinner than competitors. Read together, the consensus is that this is an excellent budget gift for younger kids who'll snuggle it lightly, not a substitute for a true heirloom-grade plush.
- Highlight 1
- Premium Plush Toy for Comfort & Snuggles – This extra-soft bunny features floppy ears, expressive eyes, & huge feet, in a gentle sitting pose; an ideal stuffed animal to appeal to kids and collectors
- Highlight 2
- Emotional Support & Sensory Toy – Burrow is 9-inch bunny plush that promotes bonding, on-the-go comfort, bedtime cuddles and imaginative play—ideal toddler toy for screen-free play with plushies
- Highlight 3
- Snuggly & Built to Last – With surface-washable materials that stand up to repeated hugs and imaginary pretend play; this teddy bear-style bunny makes cute room decor or nursery bedroom décor
- A heartfelt gift for any age or occasion
- Whether it's a baby shower gift, for Easter, birthdays, get-well wishes, or just because, ideal alternative to baby toys, kids toys or for any occasion
- Timeless Quality
- For over 30 years, Melissa & Doug have crafted learning toys that are both timeless & built to last, with everything from dolls or a doll house, to building toys, games, puzzles & stuffed animals
I think most of their stuffed animals have metal skeletons inside and are very heavily stuffed, hard as a rock.
If you love that JC bunny but can't justify spending $200+ I'd recommend this one!! Very soft and feels nice to cuddle :).
