What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, Taylor of Old Bond Street's Sandalwood cream is the consensus pick when shoppers ask for a step up into traditional English shaving creams. shavingadvisor.com and westcoastshaving.com describe a rich, creamy lather with strong protection and lubrication, and verified-purchase reviewers on Amazon and Target give it 4.6 stars across an unusually large review base — roughly 37,500 ratings on Amazon alone. The disagreement is real and worth surfacing.
What reviewers liked
- Massive verified-purchase base (~37,500 Amazon reviews, 4.6 average)
- r/wicked_edge users report excellent dense lather in under 10 seconds of bowl-lathering
- Classic sandalwood scent praised on r/wicked_edge as a refined 'old school' fragrance
- Paraben-free formula per retailer listings
- A small amount goes a long way — reviewers consistently note long tub life
Where it falls short
- A high-trust r/wicked_edge thread argues slickness is poor for the price
- One r/wicked_edge user reported mild irritation from the intense fragrance
- shavingadvisor.com notes the lather can dry out quickly
- More expensive than mainstream creams and requires a brush
Across the reviewers we read, Taylor of Old Bond Street's Sandalwood cream is the consensus pick when shoppers ask for a step up into traditional English shaving creams. shavingadvisor.com and westcoastshaving.com describe a rich, creamy lather with strong protection and lubrication, and verified-purchase reviewers on Amazon and Target give it 4.6 stars across an unusually large review base — roughly 37,500 ratings on Amazon alone.
The disagreement is real and worth surfacing. A high-trust r/wicked_edge review called the lather excellent and dense, achieved in under ten seconds of bowl-lathering, and praised the 'old school' powdery sandalwood scent. But another high-trust thread on the same subreddit argued the slickness is underwhelming relative to the price and that shaves improved after switching away. Another r/wicked_edge user reported the intense fragrance caused mild skin irritation.
The net consensus is that this is a polished, long-lasting cream with classic styling and scent, but it is neither the slickest nor the most skin-friendly cream available, and reviewers consistently note that a tiny dab is enough — using too much is a common new-user mistake.
- Sandalwood-scented shaving cream produces a rich, creamy lather that ensures an exceptionally close shave. Paraben-free, Suitable for all skin types.
- Loaded with moisturizing and protective properties, it leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth, without any greasy residue. Use within 12 months after opening.
- Sandalwood - A classic fragrance with top notes of geranium, lavender, rosemary and liquid amber supported by a heart of carnation, fern and orange blossom resting on a sumptuous base of patchouli, sandalwood, powdery musk and rock rose
- Due to environmental considerations Taylor shave creams no longer come with a plastic inner cap. It is quite normal for creams to have irregular cavity structures and for their surfaces to not be completely smooth. This does not affect the quality of the cream and should not be considered a flaw.

I recently purchased the shaving cream and tested it out. I noticed that the fragrance is quite intense and it caused some mild irritation on my skin.
I love their shaving cream! Just use a tiny bit is all you need with it. I did the same thing and realized I was using enough for 10 shaves lol.
