What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, the RTIC Ultra-Light is positioned explicitly as the lighter, lower-cost alternative to traditional rotomolded coolers — RTIC's own marketing claims roughly 30% lighter weight at comparable capacities. outdoorgearlab.com's testing of the Ultra-Light 22 measured it holding 40°F or below for just under three and a half days, which they treated as solid mid-pack performance. High-trust community consensus on r/CampingGear and r/camping is consistently positive: multiple commenters report 4+ days of cold retention in hot-weather camping, and the recurring refrain is that RTIC delivers YETI-equivalent performance at meaningfully lower cost.
What reviewers liked
- outdoorgearlab.com (high-trust) measured strong sub-40°F retention for over three days
- r/CampingGear and r/camping high-trust consensus: ice retention comparable to YETI at lower price
- Roughly 30% lighter than rotomolded equivalents, easier to carry
- Amazon 4.7 across 1,200+ reviews with strong Walmart verified-purchase corroboration
Where it falls short
- Not actually rotomolded — buyers strictly seeking roto construction should look elsewhere in RTIC's line
- Ice retention trails the heaviest premium rotomolded coolers in absolute testing
- Specialist users note thinner walls than true rotomolded models
- Some r/camping commenters still recommend stepping up to YETI for hardest-use scenarios

High-trust community consensus on r/CampingGear and r/camping is consistently positive: multiple commenters report 4+ days of cold retention in hot-weather camping, and the recurring refrain is that RTIC delivers YETI-equivalent performance at meaningfully lower cost. r/CampingGear long-term users specifically vouch for the Ultra-Light's durability despite its lighter construction.
The honest caveat shoppers searching specifically for rotomolded construction should know: this model is the Ultra-Light line, intentionally not rotomolded. If you want RTIC's true rotomolded build, it's a different SKU. Reviewers also note ice retention, while strong, trails the heaviest rotomolded competitors in absolute terms — you're trading some performance for substantial weight and price savings.

As long as the capacity is comparable, rtic or lifetime keeps ice just as long as yeti. Bigger cooler, more ice to start with, the longer it can last.
