What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, the YETI Hopper Flip 12 is the most consistently recommended soft-sided cooler on the market. cleverhiker.com calls it a top-of-the-line soft shell that handles real outdoor abuse, theinertia.com highlights its rugged construction and useful strap layout, and treelinereview.com notes it's the soft cooler their testers keep reaching for thanks to easy access, leakproof zippers, and strong ice retention. r/YetiCoolers threads echo that consensus across multiple discussions, with longtime owners reporting the zipper improves with use and lube.
What reviewers liked
- High-trust gear publishers including cleverhiker.com rate it at the top of the soft-cooler category
- Specialist r/YetiCoolers consensus reports multi-day ice retention and long-term durability

Where it falls short
- Reviewers across theinertia.com and r/YetiCoolers consistently flag the zipper as stiff and requiring lubrication
- Sized for one or two people; r/YetiCoolers users say it's too small for families
- Premium price point repeatedly called out as a downside

The consistent knocks across sources are predictable: theinertia.com flags the price and a stiff zipper, and r/YetiCoolers users acknowledge the Flip 12 tops out around two people's needs, with families of four better served by the Flip 18. Mainstream tech press treats it as the benchmark other soft coolers are measured against rather than a bargain.
For a single buyer who wants one soft cooler to do most jobs, the trust-weighted consensus lands here. It's expensive, but the criticism is consistent: it's expensive and the zipper is stiff, not that it underperforms.
- The Hopper Flip 12 has ColdCell Insulation, a closed-cell foam that offers superior cold-holding to ordinary soft coolers, with a capacity of up to 12 cans plus ice
- Features a 100% leakproof HydroLok Zipper and high-density fabric that withstands punctures and UV rays
- Its DryHide Shell is waterproof and resistant to punctures, and abrasions so it will hold its own when faced with the hazards of the wild
- The only personal cooler that’s game for full days in the tree stand, early mornings in the duck boat, or afternoons on the water
- The Hopper Flip 12 dimensions are 12 5/8 in long x 10 in wide x 11 ½ in high and an empty weight of 3.1 lbs
It's a great little cooler and gets better with use. I haven't had any zipper problems and I only lube it when I think about it (not often at all).
I have a flip 12 and it's great, however it doesn't really work for four people if more stuff has to be packed. It's more for two people's needs ...
