Across the reviewers we read, the Fractal Design North XL is widely regarded as one of the best-looking cases on the market, and reviewers are surprised by how well its wood-slatted front breathes. Tom's Hardware, a verified-tier source, wrote it was 'blown away by the thermal performance... despite its wood-slatted front panel,' and TechPowerUp frames it as a faithful upscaling of the popular North with room for larger boards and longer GPUs.

The walnut-and-mesh aesthetic is the clear draw, and r/FractalDesign includes owners with 'no complaints' about their charcoal Dark TG builds.
That said, this is the pick with the most honest disagreement in the pool. Multiple r/FractalDesign threads criticize the build quality as not matching the premium price, describing 'very cheap' feeling plastic, thin mesh that bends easily, and an upper mesh panel that shifts because it isn't screwed down. The community itself notes a split between glowing expert reviews and skeptical owner reports. Buy it for the looks and airflow, but go in aware of the build-quality complaints.
- Enhance the look of your gaming station with sleek wood and alloy details
- Designed for E-ATX / ATX / mATX / mITX motherboards
- Choose a GPU up to 413 mm, or up to 380 mm with a 420 mm front radiator
- Compatible with front radiators up to 420 mm and top radiators up to 360 mm
- Get a head start on your build with the three included 140 mm Aspect PWM fans
Plastic feels very cheap, the mesh is very thin and bends easily, the upper mesh can move in place way to easily( there is no screw to keep it in place).
It's undeniably the best-looking PC case, period. However, there are some major flaws with it, such as the limited space, build quality, and acoustics.
