The consensus
What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, TRENDnet's 8-port 2.5GbE switch lands as the most consistently recommended fanless multi-gig switch from an established brand at a reasonable price. enostech.com's review highlighted full 2.5GbE on all eight ports, and a r/HomeNetworking user who upgraded from a gigabit unmanaged switch reported the TEG-S380 hitting its rated 40Gbps switching capacity in practice. r/buildapcsales commenters specifically praised the metal chassis versus the plastic shells on cheaper TP-Link alternatives.
What reviewers liked
- Eight full 2.5GbE ports with 40Gbps switching capacity confirmed in enthusiast reviews
- Metal case praised in r/buildapcsales versus plastic competitors
- Fanless silent operation suitable for living rooms and offices
- r/HomeNetworking and r/homelab owners report stable real-world 2.5Gbps throughput
Where it falls short
- Fanless multi-gig switches run warm under sustained load, per community discussion
- Unmanaged — no VLANs or link aggregation
- Documentation thinner than Netgear/TP-Link equivalents per r/homelab commenters
- Higher price than gigabit-only alternatives
Across the reviewers we read, TRENDnet's 8-port 2.5GbE switch lands as the most consistently recommended fanless multi-gig switch from an established brand at a reasonable price. enostech.com's review highlighted full 2.5GbE on all eight ports, and a r/HomeNetworking user who upgraded from a gigabit unmanaged switch reported the TEG-S380 hitting its rated 40Gbps switching capacity in practice. r/buildapcsales commenters specifically praised the metal chassis versus the plastic shells on cheaper TP-Link alternatives.
The trust mix is solid rather than spectacular: enthusiast-site coverage is present, retailer reviews are positive, and r/homelab threads include long-term owners reporting trouble-free operation. The main caveat surfaced in community discussion is that fanless multi-gig switches can run warm under sustained load, and TRENDnet's documentation is thinner than what you'd get from Netgear or TP-Link. For most home and small-office users wanting 8 ports of 2.5GbE without a fan, however, this is the pick the consensus keeps returning to.

I upgraded an unmanaged 10/100/1000 switch to a TRENDnet TEG-S380 which is an 8 port unmanaged 2.5 Gbps switch with 40 Gbps max capacity.
Picked up a "BrosTrend" 8-port 2.5G switch recently, which seems solid. Nice couple of features too - vlan & link aggregation.
