What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, the Polk Signa S2 has held up remarkably well as a budget pick despite being one of the older bars on the list. RTINGS describes it as a 'passable stereo 2.1 soundbar' and a 'fairly good upgrade from your TV speakers' for TV and music, with the wireless subwoofer adding real low-end weight. The dedicated VoiceAdjust technology is the feature reviewers and customers cite most often — multiple r/Soundbars threads recommend it specifically for older viewers or apartment dwellers who fight nightly with quiet dialogue and loud effects.
What reviewers liked
- RTINGS confirms it is a fairly good upgrade from TV speakers for TV-centric use
- VoiceAdjust dialogue enhancement is repeatedly cited as a strength in r/Soundbars threads
- Wireless subwoofer included in the box at a sub-$250 price
- Exceptionally high review volume (21,893) supports the consensus rating
Where it falls short
- No Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, or any height/spatial processing
- RTINGS rates it only 'passable' as a stereo 2.1 — not a step toward true surround
- V-shaped tuning is not ideal across all music genres per specialist reviewers
- Aging product with no app, no calibration, and minimal connectivity options

The Amazon review signal is unusually robust: 21,893 reviews averaging 4.4 stars. That volume makes the rating harder to dismiss as gamed, and the verified-purchase commentary aggregated by r/AmazonDealsSavers emphasizes ease of setup, value, and dialogue clarity. The trade-offs are real and uncontested: no Dolby Atmos, no room calibration, no app, and a V-shaped tuning that one specialist blog flagged as not equally comfortable across music genres.
For shoppers under $250 whose top priorities are clearer dialogue and a noticeable bass upgrade from TV speakers, the trust-weighted consensus still puts the Signa S2 in the recommendation column years after launch.

I just got the signa and am really happy with it. Mine is only in my bedroom, but it sounds great and the sub seems punchy.
i just tried to go cheap with the HW-R650 and the SWA-8500S. The HW-R650 has some odd subwoofer level issues, tried two different ones... failed ...
