The consensus
What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, the Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB is the most consistently recommended all-rounder in this group. whathifi.com calls it a sturdy player that also copies vinyl straight to a hard drive via USB, and loudersound.com frames it as more than a DJ-friendly deck—"a great shout for solid performance at the entry level." The combination of a direct-drive motor, adjustable anti-skate and tracking force, a switchable built-in phono preamp, and USB digital output is why it shows up so often as the bridge between plug-and-play players and true hi-fi decks.
What reviewers liked
- Switchable built-in phono preamp plus USB output for digitizing records, praised across mainstream reviewers
- Direct-drive motor with adjustable anti-skate and tracking force gives it real upgrade and DJ-style versatility
- Very large, high-rating verified-purchase base (4.7 across ~8,973 ratings) corroborating reliability
Where it falls short
- r/turntables threads include owners reporting scratchy or distorted sound out of the box, suggesting setup or unit variability
- Some specialist commenters argue it's poor value at $400, pointing to alternatives like the Fluance RT82 around $300
- Fully manual operation may frustrate buyers expecting auto start/stop

The LP 120 is incredibly disappointing and not lining up with the reviews I've read on it. Basically it sounds scratchy and distorted - kinda reminds me of ...
It's good. I have two. Some people hate on it for being a Technics 1200 clone but I've enjoyed it well enough and had no problems.
