What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
The Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 sits at the top of the price ladder here, and dealer-affiliated reviewers are effusive: audioadvisor.com calls it "unprecedented value" bursting with audiophile features, and its carbon tonearm and electronic speed control draw praise. Plenty of owners agree it's a genuinely high-performing deck for the money. The honest wrinkle, surfaced repeatedly across r/turntables, is the bundled Pick it MM EVO cartridge: multiple separate threads describe "super noticeable sibilance" and harsh highs, with several owners reporting the issue largely went away after swapping to an Ortofon 2M Blue.
What reviewers liked
- Carbon one-piece tonearm and refined build praised by specialist dealers like audioadvisor.com
- Strong sound-per-dollar reputation and a clear upgrade path
- Solid 4.6 Amazon average among early owners
Where it falls short
- Multiple independent r/turntables threads flag harsh sibilance from the stock Pick it MM EVO cartridge
- Several owners only fixed the highs by replacing the cartridge—an added cost on a premium deck
- Fully manual with no built-in phono preamp

That's a meaningful asterisk on an $800 table—the chassis and tonearm earn strong marks, but the stock cartridge is a recurring point of frustration.
