The consensus
What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, the Fitarc Joist Mount is the most-discussed budget ceiling-mounted option. Amazon verified-purchase data (4.5 across 990 reviews) is strong, and r/GarageGym threads include multi-year users reporting it's still in good condition after twice-weekly use. The appeal is straightforward: a heavy-duty steel bar that screws directly into ceiling joists, sidestepping the door-frame damage debate entirely.
What reviewers liked
- Eliminates door-frame damage entirely
- Heavy-duty steel construction at a budget price (~$36)
- Strong 4.5/990 Amazon verified-purchase signal
- Long-term r/GarageGym users report years of reliable use
- Fits standard 32–36" joist spacing
Where it falls short
- r/Carpentry flags that joist end-grain mounting depends heavily on screw length and quality
- Requires drilling and confirmation of joist location — not renter-friendly
- No high-trust publication has independently tested it
- Installation mistakes have serious failure modes overhead
- Not adjustable once installed

The sharpest commentary comes from r/Carpentry, where contributors flag a real engineering caveat — screwing up into the bottom of a joist puts load on the screw threads and wood fibers rather than shear strength, which can be weaker than expected. Multiple DIY reviewers recommend long lag screws (3.5" or more) and verifying joist orientation before installing. When installed correctly, r/crossfit and r/bodyweightfitness users report it handles heavy use; when installed poorly, the failure mode is unpleasant.
No high-trust publication has independently tested this specific SKU, so the score reflects community-trust signals only. It's the right pick for users with exposed beams or accessible joists who want a permanent, no-door-frame solution.

- Feature 2
- Sturdy structure: thicker weight-bearing tube, stronger load-bearing capacity, more stability. The use of electronic spraying technology, should not fall off the paint
- Feature 3
- Comfortable handle: non-slip handle, high quality high-density foam to provide comfort and safety, thickened and wear-resistant, waterproof and not easy to slip. So you can work out harder and longer
- Feature 4
- Installation conditions: The FITARC Joist Mount Pull Up Bar has been designed specifically to be mounted to a secure and solid Joist. Under no circumstances should this Joist Mount Pull Up Bar be mounted to Dry Wall or other thin wall material
- Feature 5
- Easy to install: Our joist ceiling mount pull up bars come with instructions and installation videos, making it easy for you to quickly assemble the chin up bar
If you screw up into the bottom of the beam the strength is in the wood fibers and screw threads, which can be much weaker.
My dead simple chin-up/TRX rig hangs directly off two beefy screw hooks threaded about 3½" into the joists. Nothing heavy looming overhead.
