The consensus
What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, this NICETOWN panel with a black liner is the most consistently recommended all-rounder. sleepopolis.com, the highest-trust source in this candidate's signals, describes it as inhibiting 85-99% of light and UV while reducing noise, and notes the fabric strikes a balance that doesn't feel too hefty or too flimsy. That measured framing matters: the brand markets '100% blackout,' but the independent read is closer to near-total darkening than literal totality.
What reviewers liked
- High-trust testing writeup (sleepopolis.com) confirms strong 85-99% light and UV blocking plus noise reduction
- Massive verified-purchase base (78,000+ Amazon reviews at 4.8) and corroborating target.com retailer praise
- Black-liner construction earns durability praise, with one r/HomeDecorating user citing seven years of use
Where it falls short
- Marketed as 100% blackout, but the high-trust source measured 85-99%, not literal totality
- Community threads (r/homeowners, r/ExpectationVsReality) repeatedly flag edge light leakage at sides and top
- No dimensional/measurement testing beyond light-blocking percentage in the supplied high-trust source

That measured framing matters: the brand markets '100% blackout,' but the independent read is closer to near-total darkening than literal totality.
Verified-purchase volume is a major part of the story here, with more than 78,000 Amazon ratings averaging 4.8, and retailer reviews on target.com echoing that the fabric is 'heavy yet not stiff' and 'really blocks the light.' Specialist-community feedback reinforces longevity, a r/HomeDecorating user reports the same panels up for seven years. The black-liner construction is the feature reviewers credit most for both light blocking and the thermal/noise benefits.
The honest caveat, surfaced repeatedly in r/homeowners and r/ExpectationVsReality, is edge leakage: the fabric can be pitch dark while light still seeps at the sides and top. Reviewers who want true darkness pair these with overlapping panels or a wraparound rod rather than relying on the curtain alone.

For some reason the 99% blackout drapes from this brand work better than the 100%. There are definitely better options online though.
We have the Nicetown brand as well. I can close the curtains in our bedroom in the middle of a sunny day and it's pitch dark. They don't block ...
