What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, the Zojirushi Home Bakery Supreme is the go-to recommendation for bakers who specifically want a traditional horizontal sandwich loaf rather than the taller vertical shape most machines produce. peanutblossom.com praised the golden-brown crust and called out sourdough and caraway rye as standouts, and reviewer comments at shop.kingarthurbaking.com specifically cite the regular loaf design — and the appeal of being able to cut an actual end slice — as the reason to choose it. The r/BreadMachines community is broadly positive, with owners describing white-bread texture as 'perfect, fluffy yet moist and airy with a flaky crust.' One direct comparison thread between the Supreme and the Virtuoso Plus came down on the Virtuoso side, noting that the lid heating element in the newer Virtuoso browns the tops of loaves better than the Supreme can.
What reviewers liked

- peanutblossom.com specifically praises sourdough and caraway rye results
- shop.kingarthurbaking.com customer comments praise loaf design over round shape
- Versatile cycles including jam, dough and sourdough starter

Where it falls short
- r/BreadMachines comparison thread notes Virtuoso Plus browns tops better thanks to lid heater
- breadmachinedigest.com was harshly critical of a related Zojirushi model's build
- No automatic mix-in dispenser
- Premium pricing
- Same minority 'dense and flavorless' complaints surface in r/BreadMachines as with other Zojirushis

For shoppers prioritizing a traditional horizontal loaf shape and Zojirushi's dual-paddle reliability without needing the dispenser or top heater of the Virtuoso Plus, this is the pick reviewers point to.
- Versatile
- Bakes a variety of breads, cakes and even meatloaf. Jam, dough and sourdough starter settings too.
- Beautiful Loaves
- Adjust the crust shade of the rectangular, 2-pound loaf to the golden shade of your preference
- Convenient Design
- Easy-to-read LCD control panel and non-stick coating for easy bread removal and clean up
I've made a few loaves and they're all really disappointing! It's fast, but the breads are all dense, zero flavor, and no 'magic.' They're edible, but not good.
Definitely the Virtuoso. I found that the element in the lid is a very nice plus over the Supreme and helps the brown the top of the loaves better.
