The consensus
What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, the Epson RapidReceipt RR-60 occupies a narrow but real niche: a portable, receipt-focused scanner with bundled expense and tax software. PCMag describes it as fast and accurate for its category, while noting that USB-only tethering limits the 'mobile' claim. High-trust Best Buy verified-purchase reviewers say it does the job for receipts but caution that scan quality is 'definitely degraded' and recommend scanning receipts soon after capture.
What reviewers liked
- PCMag rates it fast and accurate for portable use
- Bundled ScanSmart software extracts receipt fields and categorizes for tax workflows
- Compact and USB-powered — noted by Staples and Best Buy reviewers as easy to fit on a small desk
- Large Amazon review base (4.2/810) supports the niche-fit consensus
Where it falls short
- PCMag explicitly notes USB-only tethering limits portability claims
- High-trust Best Buy reviewers report degraded scan quality on older receipts
- r/ConsumerAdvice users describe the bundled software as clunky and flag a 200 dpi ceiling
- Outclassed as a general document scanner by the Epson ES-400 II at similar pricing
- r/Epson posts steer heavy-volume receipt scanners toward the larger RR-600W instead

Reddit specialist communities are more critical. r/ConsumerAdvice posters describe the bundled software as 'very clunky' and flag a 200 dpi resolution ceiling in the receipt workflow. r/Epson threads suggest buyers with heavy thermal-receipt volume look at the larger RR-600W instead.
The honest read: as a general-purpose document scanner it's outclassed by the ES-400 II and ScanSnap line, but the bundled ScanSmart receipt-categorization software is the actual reason to buy it. If you don't need that workflow, a cheaper general scanner is the better call.

It does the job fairly well. The quality of what your scanning definitely is degraded in the process. For me it’s receipts. So try to do them as soon after as you can.
Just got the Epson and unloaded it today. Software is VERY clunky and does not allow you to change resolution to anything higher than 200dpi. In ...
I'm looking for a good comparison between the RR-600W (or the ES-580W which looks to be the same but in black) and the IX1600.
