Are 360 cameras worth it over a regular action cam?

Specialist communities are split. The upside is shoot-now-frame-later flexibility and invisible-selfie-stick third-person shots; the downside, repeatedly raised on r/Insta360, is that 360 footage requires post-processing time and that single-lens output from a 360 cam is mediocre compared to a dedicated wide-angle action cam. If you want to point and shoot, a traditional action cam is the easier path.
