Combination or key lock for travel?

Across r/onebag and r/BuyItForLife threads, the consensus leans toward combination locks because there's no key to lose mid-trip. The downside flagged by r/lockpicking contributors is that cheap 3-digit combination locks are decodable by hand; 4-digit mechanisms add an order of magnitude more combinations and are generally preferred.
