Do I need impact sockets, or are chrome sockets fine?
Reviewer consensus
If you plan to use a powered impact wrench or impact driver, you need impact-rated sockets, which are made of slightly softer, more ductile steel that absorbs shock instead of shattering. Chrome (hand-tool) sockets are harder and better suited to ratchets and breaker bars. Many home garages end up owning both: a chrome mechanic's set for hand work and a smaller impact set for wheels and stubborn fasteners.
