Do I need the companion app to use a magnetic rower?

No. The SunnyFit, YOSUDA and MERACH apps add guided classes and Bluetooth tracking, but every model here works fully as a standalone machine with its own LCD monitor. Reviewers describe the apps as a nice extra rather than a requirement, and several note the built-in displays are basic.
