Camping & Outdoor · Backpack Rain Covers
Do I really need a separate rain cover if my backpack is already water-resistant?
Reviewer consensus
Most hiking and travel packs are only water-resistant at the fabric, not at the seams, zippers, and front panel, so prolonged or heavy rain still soaks through. A dedicated cover adds a cheap outer barrier. Note that covers protect the outside of the pack but not the back panel against your body, so a dry bag or liner inside is still smart for electronics.
