Yes. Induction works by magnetically exciting ferrous cookware, so you need magnetic-bottom pots and pans (cast iron, magnetic stainless steel). A quick test: if a fridge magnet sticks firmly to the base of the pan, it will work. Pure aluminum, copper, and most glass cookware will not heat unless they have a bonded magnetic plate.
