Do outdoor smart plugs need a hub?

Most modern outdoor plugs are Wi-Fi based and connect directly to your router with no hub, including the Kasa, Tapo, BN-LINK and Amazon Basics models. The main exception is the Lutron Caseta plug, which requires a Lutron Smart Bridge to work, that adds cost but is part of why its ecosystem is well regarded for reliability.
