It depends on the radio. Zigbee sensors like the Aqara and THIRDREALITY units and Thread-based sensors like the Aqara P2 require a compatible hub or border router. Wi-Fi sensors such as the Tuya-based contact sensor connect directly to your router with no hub, while ecobee's sensors work within the ecobee ecosystem. Check the connectivity type before buying.
