Is a MIPS helmet actually worth the extra money?

The consensus across cycling press and r/cycling threads we read is yes for most riders: MIPS (or a comparable rotational-impact liner) is now standard on most mid-priced helmets and adds rotational protection in oblique crashes. A minority of long-time riders on r/bicycling argue MIPS is overhyped, but high-trust outlets like Consumer Reports and OutdoorGearLab continue to favor MIPS-equipped models, and the price premium has shrunk to roughly $10–$20 in this price band.
