Is a toddler bed worth it, or should I go straight to a twin?

This is a recurring debate in r/toddlers and r/Mommit, with no clear consensus. Many parents skip the toddler bed and use a twin or full mattress (sometimes on the floor) to avoid buying a bed the child outgrows in a year or two. Others value the smaller footprint, lower cost, and gentler transition of a dedicated toddler bed. Convertible toddler-to-twin frames like the Step2 Roadster are a middle path.
