Should I buy a desktop dispenser or a pistol-grip tape gun?

Use a desktop dispenser for 3/4-inch office tape, gift wrapping, and craft work. Use a pistol-grip (handheld) gun for 2-inch packing tape on shipping boxes. Reseller communities are clear that these are not interchangeable: a desktop unit can't keep up with carton sealing, and a tape gun is overkill and awkward for envelopes or wrapping paper.
