What actually makes a coffee maker 'smart'?

There are three common definitions in the reviews we read: true WiFi/app control (e.g., the Keurig K-Café SMART's BrewID), Bluetooth-tethered presets, or simply a programmable brewer that can be paired with an Alexa- or Google-compatible smart plug. The cheapest 'smart' route is the smart-plug approach, but it only controls on/off, not brew strength or schedule beyond that.
