What's parking mode and do I need a hardwire kit?

Parking mode lets the camera keep recording (via motion, impact, or time-lapse) while the car is off. Across the reviewers we read, most cameras here require a separately sold hardwire kit to draw power from the fuse box without draining the starter battery. Without the kit, parking mode either won't work or will rely on a short internal capacitor buffer.
