A smart vent (like the Flair line) physically opens and closes louvers to redirect airflow based on room temperature. A register booster fan (like the AC Infinity AIRTAP T4) leaves the vent open and uses a fan to pull more conditioned air into the room. Booster fans are cheaper and less risky for your blower; smart vents offer finer per-room control but require a hub and pucks.
