What's the difference between a spreader-bar hammock and a gathered-end (camping) hammock?

Spreader-bar hammocks (often with wood or metal bars at each end) lie flat like a traditional backyard hammock and are easier to get into, but specialist communities note they can feel tippy and aren't ideal for sleeping. Gathered-end parachute-nylon hammocks cradle you in a diagonal lay, are more stable, and are preferred for camping and overnight use.
