What's the difference between an engine hoist and an engine support bar?

A cherry-picker engine hoist is a wheeled crane that lifts an engine completely out of the vehicle, while an engine support bar rests across the fenders to hold a transmission or engine in place from above during subframe or mount work. They solve different problems, and many shops own both.
