What's the difference between auto-ranging and manual-ranging?

Auto-ranging meters pick the right scale automatically, which is faster and friendlier for beginners. Manual-ranging (like the Klein MM325) forces you to select the range yourself, which is slower but can be more deliberate and slightly faster to settle on a stable reading. Most modern budget and mid-tier meters are auto-ranging.
