Which radar detectors are legal where I drive?

Radar detectors are legal for passenger vehicles in most U.S. states but banned in Virginia and Washington D.C., and banned in commercial vehicles federally. They are also illegal on U.S. military bases. Check your state law before buying, and note that some windshield-mount detectors can be visible from outside the car.
