What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, the Arlo Chime 2's distinguishing feature is its built-in 1080p-doorbell-friendly siren and selection of customizable melodies—Walmart verified-purchase reviewers specifically call out that it's "loud enough to hear through the whole house without being obnoxious," and Home Depot reviewers describe the chime variety as a genuine upgrade over Arlo's previous hub-only setup. The siren doubling as a deterrent is the most-cited reason mainstream reviewers choose this over a basic plug-in chime. r/arlo community threads (medium-trust) surface a more nuanced picture.
What reviewers liked
- Walmart and Home Depot reviewers report strong, room-filling volume across a typical home
- Built-in siren adds a deterrent function most competing chimes don't have
- r/arlo threads confirm direct Wi-Fi connection (no hub required) is a genuine improvement
- Customizable melody library is broader than Ring's default tones
Where it falls short
- r/arlo users report Wi-Fi setup issues with complex passwords and firmware mismatches
- Product listing confirms it is not compatible with Arlo Pro or Ultra cameras
- r/arlo contributors note you cannot upload custom audio—library is fixed
- Brand-locked to the Arlo ecosystem

r/arlo community threads (medium-trust) surface a more nuanced picture. Setup issues with complex Wi-Fi passwords and firmware-dependent quirks come up repeatedly, with one workaround being to pair on a guest network first. Other r/arlo posts note that the Chime 2 is functionally similar to the original Arlo chime apart from connecting directly to Wi-Fi instead of the hub, and that you still cannot upload custom melodies—you're picking from Arlo's bundled library.
Compatibility is the other catch: the product listing itself notes the Chime 2 does not work with Arlo Pro or Ultra cameras, only with the wired/wireless doorbell and select security cameras. Confirm your specific Arlo model before buying.
- Stay connected - Receive instant audible notifications for a doorbell ring from your Arlo doorbell or motion alert from any of your Arlo surveillance cameras
- Deter unwanted guests - Use the 80 plus decibel smart siren to automatically sound when motion or audio is detected, or trigger it manually from the Arlo app to make the Chime 2 into a door alarm
- Customize alerts - Personalize the door chime by selecting from a variety of melodies, adjusting the volume, or setting the door chime into silent mode to stay notified the way you want
- Wire-free setup- Easily plugs into an outlet and connects directly to Wi-Fi to make your doorbell a smart doorbell. No base station required.
- Arlo certified accessory.
- Works with
- Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) (AVD4001, AVD3001), Essential Video Doorbell Wire-Free (AVD2001), Video Doorbell Wired (AVD1001), Audio Doorbell (AAD1001), Essential Outdoor Camera Wired, Essential Pan Tilt Indoor Camera, Essential Pan Tilt Outdoor Camera, Ultra (3rd Gen), Pro (6th Gen), Pro XL (6th Gen), Essential Indoor Camera (3rd Gen), Essential XL Outdoor Camera (3rd Gen), Essential Outdoor Camera Battery (3rd Gen).
The second-generation Arlo Video Doorbell is a well-priced wireless smart doorbell that delivers sharp video with a full view of your doorstep as well as optional cloud storage and smart alerts.
It's the exact same thing as arlo chime 1 except it connects to wifi instead of the hub apparently. You still can't upload your own melodies...
It makes no sense to buy a separate Arlo branded chime (the very latest one, at that) and not be able to differentiate between it and the phone.
