What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, the Bowflex SelectTech 840 is the most-reviewed adjustable in this pool and earns generally positive marks for what it is. garagegymreviews.com gives it 4 out of 5 stars and singles out the $149 price as strong value relative to similar adjustables, while mensfitness.co.uk acknowledges the useful weight range and compact footprint without calling it perfect. r/kettlebell sentiment is where the trust-weighted picture gets more complicated.
What reviewers liked
- garagegymreviews.com flags strong value at $149 with 4/5 stars
- Replaces six fixed kettlebells (8–40 lb) in a single compact footprint
- Specialist-community feedback praises the fast dial-style weight adjustment
- Verified-purchase volume (~7,630 reviews) at 4.8 stars is unusually high for the category
Where it falls short
- r/kettlebell consensus repeatedly notes the 40 lb ceiling is too low for most male lifters on swings and squats
- Plastic internals reportedly vulnerable to drops, per direct r/kettlebell comparison threads
- r/kettlebell users describe it as "terrible" for Turkish get-ups and awkward against the forearm versus a traditional bell

r/kettlebell sentiment is where the trust-weighted picture gets more complicated. Multiple commenters praise the speed of the dial-style weight change and the form factor for tight spaces (motor homes, apartments). But the same subreddit consistently flags two limitations: a 40 lb ceiling that most male lifters will outgrow on swings and squats, and plastic internals that, per one commenter directly comparing it to a Bells of Steel unit, can break if dropped. Movement-specific feedback notes it works for RDLs, squats, and swings but feels poor for Turkish get-ups.
The 4.8/5 average across roughly 7,630 Amazon reviews is the headline number; high-trust and specialist sources support the verdict that it's good at what it does, just not a replacement for a heavier dedicated bell.

It works for me for RDLs, squats, and swings. Its terrible for Get-ups. I do not like it as a kettlebell but it can be functional in some ways.
The weight is adjustable up to 40 pounds. Generally most men will need to use heavier weights for important drills, most of the time.
