High-trust protoolreviews.com listed top-tier performance, kickback control, a three-speed gearbox, and helpful LED light controls among its strengths. The verified outlet thedrive.com noted the XR hammer drill is physically larger than an average hammer drill, reflecting the extra muscle. r/Dewalt community members confirm it handles tapcons and small concrete chipping jobs, with bits up to 3/4 inch working fine.
The consensus tradeoffs are size, weight, and price. At a notably higher cost and being tool-only, it is overkill for light tasks. One community member even asked whether it was suitable for lighter jobs like installing switch plates, underscoring that this is a tool aimed at demanding work rather than casual DIY.
The trust-weighted verdict is that for masonry and high-torque applications, this brushless XR drill earns its place, backed by a high-trust testing outlet and consistent community confirmation of its power.
- DEWALT-built high power, high efficiency brushless motor of DEWALT 20V hammer drill delivers up to 75% more runtime vs. 18V NiCad brushed motors
- The cordless hammer drill features heavy-duty 1/2-inch ratcheting nitro-carburized metal chuck with carbide inserts for superior bit gripping strength
- 3-Mode LED provides lighting in dark or confined spaces up to 20X brighter than previous model
- LED Spotlight Mode features 20 minute shutoff function allowing for extended work time in dark or confined spaces
They work well for tapcons and really small chipping jobs. Biggest concrete bit I've used with the DCH273B is 3/4” and it worked fine. I always ...
But the DeWalt 20v tools are solid, I have used mine for 2 house remodels and numerous other projects, that's a great beginner set.
