The honest counterpoint comes from high-trust community threads. r/Tools and r/Dewalt commenters note you can assemble comparable impact coverage from cheaper warrantied sets, with one Harbor Freight deep-well set cited as working great for $16, and others observing DEWALT sockets are essentially equivalent to Craftsman and not worth a steep premium.
The trust-weighted takeaway: a solid, broadly liked impact-rated set with strong warranty support and good build, where the main debate is value rather than performance.
- DirectTorque Technology of the mechanic socket set helps prevent rounding of fasteners and provide better grip
- O-ring and retaining pin compatible for the impact socket set
- Laser etched markings on impact sockets 1/2 drive for easy identification
- Impact-ready with heat treated CR-440 steel
Just get a cheap set with a lifetime warranty. I recently got a set of 1/2" metric deep well sockets for $15.99 at Harbor Freight and the work great.
Dewalt sockets are the same as Craftsman. I have that short set with the ratchet. They are pretty nice. I wouldn't pay a premium for them, but ...
