The consensus
What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, the GREBSTK 4-Piece is the volume leader — roughly 8,026 reviews at a 4.6 average and a sub-$11 price. High-trust r/woodworking commenters describe inexpensive CR-V chisels of this type as ones that "sharpen very well and easily," with one noting a comparable cheap four-piece set still in use "15 years later." The marketing emphasis on a 25° bevel and burr-free edges is echoed in retailer reviews praising out-of-box sharpness relative to price. The disagreement worth surfacing: the same high-trust threads that like the value also call the steel "a little soft," warn that the backs "are not flat like European" chisels, and note that holding the sharper edge takes more frequent honing.
What reviewers liked
- Highest review count in the category (4.6 over ~8,026) at the lowest price
- Community reports of cheap CR-V chisels sharpening well and lasting years
- Comes sharp enough for light work relative to its price
Where it falls short
- High-trust community calls the steel "a little soft"
- Backs may not be lapped flat, requiring setup work
- Edge retention trails pricier steel; needs frequent touch-ups

The disagreement worth surfacing: the same high-trust threads that like the value also call the steel "a little soft," warn that the backs "are not flat like European" chisels, and note that holding the sharper edge takes more frequent honing. One r/woodworking comment frames the tradeoff plainly — harder to sharpen initially but "worth the time." As a low-risk first set or beater kit, the consensus is genuinely positive; expectations should be set to budget-tier steel.

I find them a little soft, but they sharpen very well and easily. They sell a reasonably priced 4-chisel set. I still use it 15 years later.
Overall I am happy with the chisels. They sharpen up really nicely and seem to cut well. I'm not unhappy enough to return them but several things bothered me ...
