The consensus
What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, the DeWalt DCW620B is the most enthusiastically reviewed dedicated plunge router in this set. The high-trust protoolreviews.com write-up calls it a 'standout choice for serious woodworkers,' and toolboxbuzz.com highlights the 2-1/4 peak HP brushless motor, E-Clutch, micro-adjustment, and LED lighting. Specialist threads on r/Dewalt and r/Tools note that it has 'more power than the older Craftsman 1 HP corded' router and accepts bits up to 2-1/2 inches.
What reviewers liked
- Dedicated plunge router design with 2-1/4 HP brushless motor, accepts bits up to 2-1/2 inches
- High-trust expert sources highlight micro-adjust, E-Clutch safety, and LED lighting
- Reddit owners describe power as matching or exceeding older corded 1 HP routers
- Cordless convenience without the typical compact-router power compromise
- Strong verified-purchase rating despite premium pricing
Where it falls short
- At ~$300 tool-only, it's the priciest pick in this roundup before batteries
- Specialist subreddits flag that small 1.5–2 Ah batteries drain quickly under load
- Relatively new product, so long-term durability data is thinner than for established corded models
- One Reddit owner notes the round handles and non-round base feel awkward ergonomically
What makes it stand out against the corded Bosch and DeWalt combo kits is that it's a purpose-built plunge router rather than a plunge base bolted to a general-purpose motor. Reviewers consistently describe the plunge action as smooth, the depth stop and micro-adjust as well-engineered, and the e-brake/E-Clutch behavior as a meaningful safety upgrade. Amazon's 4.7 across 133 verified-purchase reviews corroborates the expert read.
The honest caveats are price and batteries. At over $300 tool-only, it's the most expensive entry here, and r/Dewalt threads repeatedly note that 1.5–2 Ah batteries get eaten quickly — most owners pair it with a 5+ Ah pack. As a newer release, long-term durability data is thinner than for the 1617 or DW618.

The 620 has more power than the older craftsman 1hp corded one. Yes it does kinda eat through 1-2ah batteries but I also ran it for quite a while today.
