What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, the Haakaa Gen 2 is the travel-friendly evolution of the original silicone pump, adding a suction base to reduce spills and a leak-proof cap. Retailer listings on amazon.com and target.com emphasize its versatility: it can manually pump with adjustable suction or simply collect let-down in a pumping bra, and reviewers on walmart.com repeatedly cite how easy it is to clean and how well it collects from the opposite side during nursing. Its 4.6-star rating across more than 12,000 reviews tracks with that.
What reviewers liked
- Suction base and leak-proof cap reduce spills, aiding travel
- Adjustable suction lets it work as a light pump or passive collector
- High-trust r/beyondthebump reports it helps relieve engorgement and clogs
- Easy to clean and highly portable per verified-purchase reviewers
Where it falls short
- Less effective than a lever pump for emptying after the early months
- Can be knocked off while nursing per r/HumansPumpingMilk
- Some users find the suction uncomfortable
- Primarily a let-down collector, not a full active pump

High-trust r/beyondthebump users add a practical use case, noting it's been genuinely helpful for relieving engorgement and easing a milk bleb using warm-water-and-salt suction. The compact one-piece design and included cap make it the Haakaa variant reviewers most often call out as packable for trips, planes and car rides.
The limitations are the same ones that apply to all silicone pumps. High-trust r/BabyBumps consensus is that it works well early on for catching milk but isn't as effective as a lever pump for emptying after several months, and r/HumansPumpingMilk flags that it can be knocked off while nursing. Some r/BabyBumpsCanada users also found the suction uncomfortable.

The biggest design flaw is that it's a bit awkward to wear while nursing and baby could accidentally kick it off of you if you're not careful.
I found the Haaakaa effective early on, to catch extra milk on the opposite boob. A manual pump was more effective after like 6 months ...
