What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, the Samsung T9 is positioned as the faster sibling to the T7, with storagereview praising its high-speed transfers and best-in-class management software and pcper handing it a gold award while noting the 20Gbps external space is getting crowded. High-trust r/buildapc users report it works well for gaming straight out of the box. The recurring caveat from r/UsbCHardware and r/MacOS is that its rated 2,000MB/s needs a relatively rare USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 host port; on common ports and on Macs it falls back to roughly T7 speeds, and writes can drop toward T5-class rates once the cache fills.
What reviewers liked
- pcper gold award and positive storagereview verdict on speed and software
- High-trust r/buildapc users confirm reliable gaming and creator performance
- Up to 2,000MB/s sequential reads on supported hardware
Where it falls short
- Requires a rare USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port to reach rated speed, per r/UsbCHardware
- r/MacOS notes Macs can't use the fastest mode and writes drop after cache fills
- Smaller review base (2,800+) than the older T7
