Are helical (spiral) cutterheads worth the extra cost?
Reviewer consensus
Helical heads use rows of small carbide inserts instead of straight knives, which generally means quieter operation, less tearout on figured wood, and the ability to rotate individual inserts rather than replacing full blade sets. The trade-off is price. In this pool the JET JWP-13BT ships with a helical-style head, and aftermarket helical cutterheads exist for the DEWALT platform, but verified-purchase volume on the helical options here is modest, so cross-shop carefully.
