Are LEGO DUPLO bricks worth the price over generic blocks?

Across the reviewers we read, DUPLO earns its premium largely on durability and resale value. Community threads in r/lego and r/Duplo repeatedly point out the bricks survive years of abuse, are easily washed, and can be bought heavily discounted secondhand. The main complaint in retailer reviews is that the box looks half-empty for the money.
