Can a woodworking band saw cut metal?

Most consumer woodworking band saws run blade speeds far too fast for metal. Cutting steel or other metals typically requires a dedicated metal-cutting saw with much slower blade speeds, often a horizontal hydraulic-feed unit, or a portable deep-cut band saw with the correct bi-metal blade. Don't assume a woodworking saw will handle metal safely.
