Is sulfate-free shampoo better for my hair?

Sulfate-free formulas clean more gently and are commonly recommended for color-treated, dry, curly, or sensitive-scalp hair because they strip less natural oil. Several picks here (Pureology Hydrate, CeraVe Gentle Hydrating, OUAI, and the L'Oreal EverPure set) are sulfate-free. If you have very oily hair or use heavy styling products, a clarifying or traditional surfactant shampoo may still leave you feeling cleaner.
