The consensus
What reviewers found
Synthesized across the trust-weighted source mix below.
Across the reviewers we read, the DCS565B is the consensus pick when buyers want a lighter, more maneuverable cordless saw without dropping to a sub-compact. homedepot.com verified-purchase reviews emphasize the LED, tool-free bevel, and the brushless motor's runtime, and r/Dewalt threads repeatedly contrast it favorably against the older brushed DCS391 for both power and cuts per charge. Amazon's 4.7 average across more than 2,300 reviews is a strong corroborating signal.
What reviewers liked
- Strong consensus across 2,300+ verified Amazon reviews and homedepot.com retailer reviews
- r/Dewalt users specifically highlight brushless runtime gains over the older DCS391
- Lightweight sidewinder format is easier to handle one-handed than a 7-1/4"
Where it falls short
- 6-1/2" blade cannot cut 2x lumber through at a 45° bevel, per community threads
- r/Dewalt commenters note limited blade selection compared to 7-1/4" sizes
- Sold as bare tool; performance depends heavily on pairing with a 5.0Ah+ battery
- Some retailer reviewers report inconsistent included-blade quality

Disagreement does surface in the community data. One r/Dewalt commenter who had the brushed 6-1/2" called it underpowered with limited blade selection and preferred the 7-1/4" form factor outright; another reported a defective included blade. The recurring theme across both retailer and subreddit signals is that the DCS565B shines on sheet goods, plywood, and 2x cuts at 90°, but at 45° bevels in 2x lumber it's at its depth-of-cut limit. For a homeowner or trim/remodel user already on 20V MAX, it's the most-recommended sidewinder in this pool.

I had the brushed 6-1/2" and I felt it underpowered, a little flimsy, and poorly supported in terms of blade selection. The 20v 7-1/4" is ideal ...
It's a good saw. The bad part is Lowe's just ended a deal where you could get that saw, two 5ah batteries, a single charger, and another tool for $280.
